Dubs Moto
Story Time
My journey in motorcycles began as a little kid about 8 years old. My parents purchased me a small red chinese brand bike to learn on. I absolutely hated the thing. My first ride I tipped it over, skinned my knee, and decided this is not for me.
Fast forward a few years and the daredevil inside me decided to come to play. Nothing seemed to phase me or my friends. It was all about the crash and burn, and how fast you could get back up and do it again. My father had bought both my brother and I matching four wheelers one year. Needless to say, we rode the wheels off of those quads. When I was recovering from injuries or just had some free down time, I always tinkered with things. Legos, Lincoln Logs, Dads old lawn mower, nothing was safe from my curiosity. Eventually, that motorcycle that my parents purchased saw its last day. It was time for an upgrade.
My first true full size dirtbike was a 1998 YZ250. I still have the bike to this day, fully restored, upgraded, and burning that sweet two stroke fuel. When i bought it, it was completely covered in sand, not maintenanced, and had seen better days. I took it as a challenge, being an 17 year old with nothing better to do. That poor motorcycle must've been torn apart and put back together more than 20 times in the following couple years. I had found a new hobby, and little did I know a new career.
My first true job as a mechanic started at Motogear Speedshop. I there met Jason Tanner, now referred to as JT Engine Works. Jason showed me the ins and outs of motorcycle engines with such attention to detail, it made me realize how lucky I was to get someone willing to take me under his wing and show me the ropes. We worked together at Motogear for a number of years. Both of us showing one another new things, double checking work, and learning something new each day. Upon the closure of Motogear, Jason and I stayed working in the same building. He pursued his business as JT engine works, and I created my business now known as Dubs MotoWorks. We decided to stay two seperate businesses but operate in the same building, and continued to do the same style of mechanic work we both know and love.
Every day I learn something new, gain more knowledge of something i might have already known, or help someone better understand potential problems with their own motorcycle. I am incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities I have been given, and what I have been able to achieve over the 8 years I have been wrenching. Over 1,500 motorcycles or atvs repaired, more than 20 engine builds completed, and growing!
Thank you for reading, I hope to see you out there tearing it up or in the shop getting some parts or repairs done.
